Stream and Wetland Mitigation

Yellowleaf Mitigation Bank was Westervelt Ecological Services' first commercial stream and wetland mitigation in the Southeast and one of first stream mitigation banks in Alabama. The project has met final success, on schedule with the 10-year release schedule.

Since the 1960's, the land was owned by Gulf States Paper Corporation, during which time it has been forested or managed for forest production.

Restoration and enhancement activities included the cessation of silviculture practices, exotic species control, prescribed burning, pine stand removal, tree planting, and regular monitoring.

The restoration of hydrology consisted of removal of roads and berms, as well as the filling of ditches.
