WES is working towards approval on the Little Missouri Conservation Bank, a 313-acre property for Dakota skipper habitat in Dunn County, North Dakota.
The Dakota skipper is currently listed as federally threatened due to habitat loss and fragmentation. Conservation efforts are underway to protect its remaining populations and habitats.
The primary goal of the project is to provide compensatory mitigation for impacts on the Dakota skipper by restoring native grassland habitats and conserving the existing habitat on site. The site also provides habitat for other species, including the regal fritillary (Speyeria idalia) or the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus), which are currently high-concern species due to habitat loss.
