The pending Buttonwillow Conservation Bank is a single-client bank established for SoCal Gas. The site will provide 240.33 acres of habitat for Blunt-nosed leopard lizard, Giant kangaroo rat, Kern mallow, San Joaquin Antelope Squirrel, San Joaquin Kit Fox, Swainson’s hawk, Tipton’s kangaroo rat, and western burrowing owl. The property is located in the Southern San Joaquin Valley, in an area that has been identified as crucial for several threatened and endangered species. Permanent preservation of the site will contribute to regional species and natural community conservation efforts by adding to the network of existing protected lands and creating habitat linkages between conservation areas.
