From December 2024 through February 2025, the Fishery Foundation of California (FFC) conducted an early survey for juvenile salmon at WES’s Bullock Bend Mitigation Bank. Salmon species like the Chinook are crucial to the ecosystem and are considered keystone species. Their presence and health significantly impact other species and the overall environment. Restored floodplains, like Bullock Bend, play a vital role in supporting these sensitive fish species. Floodplains provide critical habitats for fish, offering areas for rearing and feeding. When rivers flood, these areas become rich in nutrients and provide ideal conditions for juvenile salmon to thrive.
